Blade Runner: Black Lotus #2

Blade Runner: Black Lotus #2

The notable improvement in this issue lies in the introduction of a Blade Runner character, Elle, which enhances the story’s connection to the Blade Runner universe. In the previous issue, the absence of Los Angeles as a backdrop and the lack of Blade Runners gave the narrative a sense of being detached from the familiar Blade Runner ambiance. Although the arrival of a Blade Runner doesn’t play a major role in the plot development of this particular issue, its presence helps anchor the story more firmly within the Blade Runner mythos.

The plot centers around an assault on Miguel’s colony orchestrated by Barnes and his gang of bullies. This attack carries a significant motive, extending beyond a simple personal conflict and posing major threats to Miguel’s friends. The heightened stakes in this issue compel Elle to become involved, amplifying the dramatic tension and delivering a more captivating reading experience.

Regarding the artwork, it can be considered average in this issue. Balams’ style features blocky yet fluid anatomy, which may come across as caricature-like and might not appeal to everyone’s tastes. However, the panel compositions are visually appealing, and the fight scenes are well-executed and choreographed.
