“Fear the Growlix” introduces us to a profanity-prone horror author who dislikes people and public places. However, his latest novel about the Growlix—a creature that punishes excessive cursing—propels him into the spotlight. As the writer views his work as fiction, he soon discovers that the legend he based his success on is all too real.

Among the three stories, this one falls in the middle in terms of thrills and wit. The premise appears somewhat disconnected from the monster itself. Why does it appear now, and what has changed? These unanswered questions create a void in the narrative. Nonetheless, the story revolves around an intriguing concept.

“Stagnant Waters & Swirling Passions” takes us to a swamp where a young couple indulges in an amorous picnic. However, the boyfriend crosses boundaries when faced with rejection. Just as the situation escalates, the legendary Croc-o-man emerges to unleash its fearsome wrath. In a surprising twist, the young lady sees the monster as her hero, which sets off a chain of unforeseen events.

This story stands out as the most delightfully peculiar among the three, with its swampy legend motif and the inclusion of a sideshow huckster who spins the tale with every corny sales pitch known to humankind. It offers a unique twist on the concept of beauty taming the savage beast, which strikes a relatable chord, particularly for married individuals.

In “Looks To Die For,” a young woman and her male friend embark on a Halloween costume shopping spree. The young woman struggles with self-consciousness and an overly critical nature. A surly hag-like shopkeeper offers her a sexy costume guaranteed to captivate the opposite sex. Unfortunately, the costume works too well, and every male she encounters becomes a ravenous sex fiend.

Among the three tales, this story is the most unsettling, especially due to its chilling ending. Rest assured, it never crosses the line into tastelessness, but the implications of the final panel will haunt your dreams—as any good horror story should.
